The entire valley of Ilaveezhapoonchira undergoes a magical transformation once the monsoon hits the land
Surrounded by three beautiful hills - Mankunnu, Kudayathoormala and Thonippara- Ilaveezhapoonchira is a must-visit location for nature lovers. Located in Melukavu village near Kanjar, the verdant valleys and rolling hills make Poonchira a paradise on Earth.
Spread across thousands of acres, the entire valley of Ilaveezhapoonchira undergoes a magical transformation once monsoon hits the land. The valley welcomes the torrential rains with open hands and transforms itself into a picturesque lake. The breathtaking views from the top, especially during sunrise and sunset, will make you feel like you are living inside a dream. Poonchira has several trails that are perfect for trekking and the jeep ride through the narrow, winding road to the top will be a thrilling experience for those who seek adventure.
'Ilaveezhapoonchira' literally translates to 'flower-filled bund where leaves don't fall'. It stands true to its name since the place is devoid of any trees. Legend has it that the Pandavas, characters from the Indian epic Mahabharata, visited Ilaveezhapoonchira during their exile and it is believed that the pool here was a bathing place for Draupadi, the wife of Pandavas. The slowly descending misty clouds and the perpetual hazy fog shrouding the hills give Illaveezhapoonchira an other-worldly aura - a place where the myths can come alive.
